Being a technology company, many of our offerings are digital software, which you wouldn't think generates too much waste. However, we also install and dispose of workstations, servers, hard drives, and other "technical trash." All of which requires a special process to handle and dispose of in a responsible, environmentally-friendly way.
To be responsible stewards of the waste that develops as a result of our business activities, we are forced to think about two key facets of our disposal process. Data destruction and environmental impact.
Why is data destruction so important?
Our technology solutions power businesses, governments, and a host of other organizations across New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Colorado. All of these organizations access and store valuable, sensitive, or classified data on their workstations, servers, and hard drives. If a bad actor were to access any of this information, it could have dramatic impacts on industry and national security.
Reducing our environmental impact:
As a business located in the largest publicly protected area in the US, the Adirondacks, we value the natural world and understand how important it is to minimize our impact on the environment. Unfortunately, a byproduct of our business are electronics which contain heavy metals and other hazardous components which can wreak havoc on the air, soil, and water when disposed of improperly.
We dispose of 6 pallets of electronic waste every 2-3 months , emphasizing our need for an environmentally sound disposal process.
As experts in our field, we take it upon ourselves to responsibly dispose of our clients old equipment and destroy any remaining data. Every few months, part of our team travels to Burlington, Vermont and Concord, New Hampshire to collect obsolete electronics from our clients. That all gets hauled back to our headquarters, just outside of Plattsburgh, New York, where we begin the process of data destruction and electronic recycling.
With the the help of EWASTE+ we are able to tackle both of the key facets in our disposal process, minimizing our environmental impact and destroying data lingering on old machines. EWASTE+ ensures all of the data on the machines we dispose of are completely destroyed and unrecoverable by even the most savvy IT guru. Further, the disposal process is fully environmentally sound and eliminates the disposal of hazardous electronics and components in landfills. Often the equipment can be repurposed and recycled.
Very tidy, much joy sparked in Ryan.
